Character Intro: HARBRINGER
What is darkness?
“The partial or total absence of light…” - Dictionary.com
I disagree. To me, darkness is not predicated by any absence. The dark is quite full…
See that’s our real problem with darkness. It’s infinite. It can produce anything. It can hide anything. The dark is warm… and home to many. The dark does not judge. The dark does not save. Because the dark knows who you really are… is… afraid…
Since I was a little kid, I always imagined there a beast of some sort inside me. That was where all my bad thoughts came from. It wasn’t me it was whatever “shadow monster” lived inside me. I was a good kid too because I would always ignore that beast. I would curse that beast out. I’d tell him he didn’t belong. That he was weak and that he didn’t have a say in who I was.
And as I grew, I believed that.
It wasn’t until years later that I realized what I’d done. Years later when I sat in the darkness by myself. Years later when nothing made sense to me and all I heard… was the beast. Repeating to me everything I had fed to him. But in that moment, we were the same. We were just beings in the dark. So for the first time ever, I spoke to that being. I tried to relate. I tried to understand why it was so negative.
It spoke back to me.
And then I drew Harbringer.
Harbringer is HE’s partner in the AYD comics and he represents my negativity. He is short-tempered, distrustful, and pretty much all around unfriendly to most beings. He’s also a powerful shape-shifter that uses his abilities more often than not to slice those unfortunate enough to inspire his rage… into bits.
At the same time, he is a bit of an over-bearing bodyguard to HE who Harbringer had in his custody for unknown reasons and for an unknown time period. Why is he so concerned with HE’s well-being? And if he really is so mean, then why step into the line of fire for this little guy? Harbringer may not know himself. Or… does he?
